Assignment 6

There hasn't been a post for two weeks, sorry I got caught up with jury duty and then summer school finals came around, but its all donezo! Back to the fun stuff, yuck no more charcoal/ink/pastel. Since its mid week I have a short activity thats seems kind of fun.

I took this directly from "Design Sketching" by Erik Olofsson and Klara Sjolen. The marker work is so expressive, it'd be cool if we duplicate something like this.

Theme: Expressive Markering
Objective: Replicate one of the above sketches with emphasis on replicating the rendering

Render: As shown above or try technique on your own sketches
Level of Sketch: As demonstrated above
Due: Sunday

I'm think about starting a mini project before school starts, maybe a shaver or mouse. Not sure yet, but if it goes through, it will probably follow through until the beginning of the semester.

Finished. The first one is a quick sketch to figure out the construction, second tried to figure out the perspective and third is a blue pencil sketch. The perspective fish eyes a bit but I continued anyway. Rendering using the author's technique really showed me an alternative method to getting crisp lines.

Assignment 5

Assignment 5 is taken directly from "Design Sketching" by Erik Olofsson and Klara Sjolen.
Since we decided to switch things around in Shooks class, we never got to try this one out but I've been kind of looking forward to doing this one, plus we'll get to touch up on both our sketching and photoshop skills.

Theme: Goggles
Objective: Follow instructions provided by page 96 and 97 of Design Sketching
Render:Render in Photoshop, does not have to be same as example

Level of sketch: Same as demonstrated by artist
Due: Sunday

Assignment 4

This is Sketch-A-Day. Yes, he actually looks like this in real life. His body is made of ink and he is a robot. It is for that reason that he is a great sketcher and it is for that reason that I plan on stealing him for my own purposes this week.

Jumping right into it, this week's assignment is to emulate the works and styling of Sketch-A-Day.

Take note of:
-Array of sketching ability
-Use of Marker
-Page Compositions
-Suggestive Details Used

Sketch-A-Day offers an archival of raw but effective sketches. This week's assignment, copy 5 pages of colored Sketch-A-Day's works. Specifically choose images that have been hit with marker in order to understand both use of color and suggestive rendering style.

Theme: Emulate Sketch-A-Day
Objective: Redraw 5 pages of pages of your choice that have been touched with color

Images found in archival via http://www.sketch-a-day.com/

Render: Copy Sketch-A-Day's method of rendering
Level of Sketch: Level demonstrated by Sketch-A-Day
Due:Saturday

**Be sure to look closely for construction lines. Breakdown the steps the artist took to construct the sketch before jumping in to drawing the image."

Waking up to morning dew, open air, and bursting sunshine, the client decided Saturday morning that the previous night's decision to "rage" was in fact not such a great idea. Bust out a few sketches and project your thoughts on possible room arrangments.

I hear that the only difference between us and them is that they do more, and I don't plan on letting them get too far ahead. (^__^)

Objective: 15 Sketches- anything star wars related, characters, vehicles, light sabers, etc..
Level of Sketch: optional
Rendering: optional

Post your scanned images with the date and title/theme.

If you missed the first week's assignment, don't worry about it. Keep up with each weeks assignment, do what you can and post your work. The key here is to keep posting up your work even if you didn't complete the full number of sketches so that we can keep the ball rolling and encourage everyone to keep getting better. We're going to try to keep this simple and the least intimidating as possible, so keep up with us because by the time school comes around, you are going to see the difference it made.
